What a comeback!

Last year’s Ulster Champions in the All-Ireland fourball team competition had a disastrous start to 2017. At Clones, Gerry Logue’s team slumped to a 5 – 0 and 22 hole defeat. Nil desperandum. In an astonishing turnaround, the team reproduced last year’s form with a 5 – 0 victory with a margin of 24 holes. The team will now meet Belvoir Park G.C. in the next round on Sunday and captain Gerry will hope to ensure no more nail-biting finishes.

In the Stableford 8 competition, Seamus Falconer took top billing with a fine 42 points. Shane Walsh and Gareth McGovern both shot 39 points with Shane taking the runner-up spot on countback.

Shane was successful again on countback in Stableford 9, taking top spot from Patsy McCorry with both players shooting 42 points. Shane’s father Eugene was third with 41 points. Shane is now a category one golfer.

Let’s keep it in the family.

The July monthly medal was won by Donal Flanagan with a net 65. Dad Sean Flanagan was runner-up with 66.

Stop Press: The All – Ireland fourball team had a convincing 5 – 0 and 23 hole home victory over Belvoir Park GC, but after their narrow win against Clones GC will be taking nothing for granted in the away leg.
