All’s fair for Noel and Vera.

After a dismal spell of weather, spring has sprung for the 2018 Blacklion captains Noel Melanaphy and Vera Waters. Noel and Vera welcomed a host of members to their drive-in in nearly perfect golfing conditions.

Following the traditional mulled wine and “ foosies”, club President Mel McLoughlin introduced the new captains. Captain Noel’s top priority for the year was course improvement; his aim being to ensure the course was in prime condition for members and visitors.

Both Captains launched long and straight drives on the first tee to tumultuous applause. The traditional nine- hole mixed foursomes was won by the two vice-captains Geraldine McGrory and Michael McHugh with Shauna Fee and father Gaby runners-up. The competition for men was won by Darren Boyle. Noel thanked all who had competed and made special mention of Dolores and her staff for the top-class catering.

Earlier in the day, teams 2 and 5 reached the final of the matchplay. Though both semi-finals were evenly contested, the surprise was the defeat of team 8 which had led the qualifying round from day one but such are the vagaries of match-play golf.
