Maes makes the most of Mick’s Captain’s Day.
Over 60 members and visitors took part in Michael Mc Hugh’s Captain’s Day. As usual, the result was decided by a qualifiers’ 9 hole shoot out.
Captain Michael refuse to divulge the winner until after his speech. He thanked president Peter for his unswerving support- it was a pleasure to have him in his corner. Similarly, he paid tribute to Lady Captain Geraldine Mc Grory and Lady Vice Captain, Shauna Fee.
Sponsors were essential for the club to survive and Michael thanked them all and encouraged all members to use their services. He especially thanked Jo Maes and Paddy Maguire for their work on obtaining sponsors. Rather than missing anyone he gave a general thanks to all his council and to all the members who assisted the greenkeepers in the preparation of the course for his special day. The beautiful flowers in the forecourt were the work of Geraldine and Teresa – Well done to both.
Competition secretary Peter Cumisky then announced the prize winners.
On behalf of the ladies, Lady Captain Geraldine thanked Michael for the beautiful prizes and for the fine meal provided by Dolores and all her staff.
Visitors’ prize winner Ivor Reid of Castle Hume, had really enjoyed playing 9 holes with Captain Michael. He knew he had prayed for fine weather, but as soon as Michael walked in, he and his partner were drenched by a rogue shower. He complimented the green-keepers on the fantastic condition of the course and was delighted to have won.
Captain’s prize winner Jo Maes complimented Michael on the fine array of prizes. As a single figure golfer, he thought his best days were behind him, but after this success he had second thoughts. He could say confidently that he was the first Belgian to win a Captain’s prize. He paid tribute to his playing partners and all who competed, and especially green-keepers Gaby and Francie.
